Students in the BASE (Before and After School Experience) program at Demmitt Elementary are stepping up to a healthy way to spend their after-school hours. The program is called Action Aviators and encourages kids to participate in a walking plan.
Each day, students are able to spend time at the school’s quarter mile track. They can walk, skip or run up to four laps. When they achieve five miles, they earn a toe token and receive a cut out foot with their name on it to hang on the wall for all to see. The more they walk, the more feet appear on the wall. If a student hits 50 miles, they earn a t-shirt.
Organizers say kids love the program and enjoy seeing their achievements posted on the wall.
