Fifth grade students at Smith Middle School are celebrating their first Muse Machine production of the year, "Vandalia Got Smarts, Baby!"
Half of the fifth grade worked on this production, the other half will work on a show that will be presented at the end of October.
Michael Lippert, an actor with the Human Race Theatre and Muse Machine, worked with the students again this year to create, write and stage the show. The idea behind the show is to incorporate all of the lessons they are learning in their academic classes in a lively theater production.
This show was a game show format with different classes representing different "teams" appearing on the show, hosted by Principal Russ Garman. The tems were the Funky Fractions, Problem Solving Strategists, Genius Genres, Fabulous Figurative Folks and Sassy Sentences.
The students' dress rehearsal was Thursday, Sept. 29 during the school day for other students and staff at Smith. The group had a second performance for family and friends at 7 p.m.
The second group will perform Thursday, Oct. 27.
