Welcome to Vandalia-Butler City Schools

Excellence in education has been a priority in our community for more than 110 years.

Prior to 1900, education in our area took place in one room schools located throughout Butler Township. In 1922 the Butler Township School (later renamed Morton Middle School) opened to serve students in grades K-12. During the next 47 years, the district added three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school to keep pace with the community’s growth.

Fast forward to the present; with the overwhelming support and passage of a bond issue in 2008, the district is constructing a new middle school, renovating and adding to Butler High School, and making substantive capital improvements to Smith Middle School and all three elementary schools. In addition, we completed significant renovations to Memorial Stadium in August 2010. We are committed to continuing the legacy of excellence and pride in our schools.

Rated “Excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education for six consecutive years, our district strives to meet the needs of individual learners as well as the high expectations of our community. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality education in a cost effective manner, stretching our dollars while continuing to focus on student achievement. Given the uncertainty surrounding school funding, fiscal prudence and the long-term financial health of the district continue to be high priorities.

As you browse our website I hope you will learn more about us and our community. Our district is known as a leader in professional development and in teaching and learning. Our teachers have presented at state and national conferences and we are expanding our expertise in technology. We have a variety of resources available through our website. I hope you will find time to explore much of what we have to offer.

Warm Regards,

Christy L. Donnelly
