Supporting excellence through financial stewardship

The Finance Department supports educational excellence through sufficient funding and effective stewardship.

Every member of the department’s team is focused on the responsible investment of taxpayer dollars. The district's EXCELLENT rating for the past six years demonstrates the finance team's and district administration's commitment to ensure resources are dedicated first to the classroom. Special attention is given to:

1.    Adequately fund the education of all VBCS students.

2.    Continuously seek cost savings and more efficient methods of operation.

3.    Advocate and support developments that moderate taxation.

4.    Provide full disclosure of financial resources to our community.

The department’s established record of fiscal excellence has earned top accolades from the nation’s leading ratings agencies and financial institutions:

  • Received a rating of AA from Standard & Poor’s

  • Received a rating of AA3 from Moody’s.

  • Received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for four years in a row.

It has also reduced how often and how much the district needs to request new money from our local taxpayers. Conservative budgeting has set the district at one of the lowest school tax rates in Montgomery County.
