Morton 8th graders had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. two weeks ago and visited the usual monuments and museums, sharing in our country's rich history.
But as Morton science and social studies teacher Doug Herzog tells us, the students also had an opportunity to honor history.
"There was a group of WWII vets from an Honor Fight visiting from Arizona. We stopped and watched them get pictures just outside the memorial and participated in a hearty round of applause for these men. The best part came after the clapping died down and 40 thirteen and fourteen year olds, unprovoked, proceeded to shake each and every veteran's hand and thank them for their service to our nation. I was so proud."
