Sixth Graders Recognize Black History Month

Morton Middle School 6th graders were treated to quite a lesson Tuesday, Feb. 2. Retired teacher Tomi Hacker read to them Gary Paulsen's Nighjohn in recognition of Black History Month.

The young adult novel was first published in 1993. It chronicles the lives of slaves in the American South shortly before the start of the Civil War. The popular novel later became a television movie.

These fabulous students were so engaged with the story and the story teller, they urged Hacker to keep reading.
