Members of the Morton Youth Service Association are socking it to their fellow middle school students in October, collecting socks for the needy.
“Socktober” is a month-long drive students are organizing to help those less fortunate. Students will be hosting a number of sock-themed events to bring attention to the need and collect socks. One event will be an after-school party with admission being a pair of new socks.
Socks are among the most needed items at homeless shelters, but the least-often donated. Due to the shortage, the nation’s homeless population is constantly at risk of serious foot disease and, during winter months, in danger posed by the weather.
